Placer County Fairgrounds is undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation. Jones and Johnson halls will be among the first portions of the 80-year-old fairgrounds to be upgraded. New landscaping along Washington Boulevard, repaving of the main parking lot and another 21 repairs are also planned for the site. The renovations, totaling $8 million, should be completed by November.

While the initial work is underway, Placer Valley Tourism is also seeking approval of a new 5,000-person, 130,000-square-foot events center that would be built on a vacant parcel on the west end of the fairgrounds property.

Placer Valley Tourism is contributing an additional $25 million of the costs directly related to the construction of the proposed events center, which it hopes to break ground on in spring 2018.

The addition of the proposed complex, paired with upgrades to existing structures, is expected to lure new conventions and athletic events to a site that currently holds 80 events a year. Initial estimates reveal that as many as 300 events and conferences per year could be hosted at the fairgrounds starting in 2019. The economic impact is estimated to be $12 million annually to the Roseville, Rocklin and Lincoln communities.
